1. Have good content. No matter how good everything else is, if the material you present in your video is offensive, uninteresting, or second to a better video, your video will not make it far. Good content is hard to come up with, especially because originality plays a big part and as more time passes, the harder it is to be original. The video must also be organized so that viewers can follow along easily.
2. The video quality must be good. By this, I mean the resolution, audio, and cameraman-ship. Even if a video has spectacular content, it will not become popular if it is too difficult to see, hear, and make out what is happening. Shaky hands, a recording on a phone with a poor camera, and annoying background noise are things to avoid.
3. Make it short and sweet. Videos that drag on for 20 minutes aren't likely to gather many views because it is time consuming to watch them multiple times. For example, you can watch a 20 minute video three times in an hour, whereas you can watch a 5 minute video 12 times. It is also likelier that people won't sit through a longer video, unless it is exceptionally captivating.
5. Share your video. Don't rely on people finding their way to the video. Be active- post it on Facebook, on your blogs, and everywhere else you can. The more you can lead people to your video, the more views it will get. Maybe it's embarrassing to share your own videos. But sharing will, without a doubt, raise your video's popularity. Also, share your video during a school year, not during summer vacation time for students. Students, a large source of views, are likelier to go on Youtube during the school year, when their homework is in front of them, and so are their computers. Procrastination will kick in. Mondays or Tuesdays are good too, as students and adults alike are less likely to go on Youtube during weekends. Youtube is not a go-to place when there is abundant time available, so a weekday during an academic school year would be your best bet. Also, make sure you make many tags on your videos, so that they will pop up in many searches. But make sure you don't include unrelated tags because it will lead to more dislikes on your video, and a possible reporting of your video. If someone who wants to see a cat video ends up seeing your rap video, he or she will not like it.
So here you are, 5 small steps. Note that lots of effort will go into each of these steps. Making a video go viral depends on effort, then some luck.
